Robes of Tyranny

By brian francis

With words inspiring beliefs unreal
Tainted considerations presented as fact.
He called them to his side to gather, reel,
And he dressed in the garb of the martyr,
Crying his accusations at the roiling crowd.
Girding them for action he aimed their attentions,
And drew back the bow with a flurry of noble intentions.
He promised that he would be there at their side.

He pleaded their loyalty to this appointed cause,
Colored and christened hiding seditions gleam.
He drew them along releasing the leash,
he turned and went back to his thrown.
He watched as America suffered his grief.
Celebrating the cracking of liberties panes.
Joyous he laughed as America cried.
He’d finally donned the robes of tyranny.

The Precipice

By brian francis

the edge is clean and distinct
a breaking point of history
where a nation for whatever reason
choose to turn away from themselves
they deny their very sense of morality
the deceiver smiles and laughs
anti everything good and decent
mirror mirror on the wall
who’s the leader of them all

He rose from mammon
raised his sign above them
plated in gold it shown like the sun
He smiled and was pleased
they called out his name
and he smiled and glowed with pride
“I can do anything and they will praise me”
“I demean them and invade their person”
“I can do anything I want”
and they cry out his name

Masih ad-Dajjal

by brian francis

Looking at the TV screen at the local Donuts shop
an old man said pointing at the picture of Donald Trump
He has come, soon the battle will begin.
I sat looking down engaged in my donut and coffee
but still I listened as he mumbled about the prophesy

He is the one destined for destruction
he who opposes and exalts himself
he takes the highest seat
and they cry out his name
the deceiver comes from his place
in the towers high above the great city

He will remove the laws, becoming the lawless one
joining league with the orders of darkness
he will oppress the voices of reason and truth
usurping the good with deception, perversion
Yes he has come and dark days will soon follow

National Path

By brian francis

Our national path can seem always up hill
Brightly we climb our progress a thrill
But then we find on the other side of it all
A much steeper hill and down it we fall
And down in the valleys where shadows play
Licking our wounds, we sit and we stay
Regretting the effort, we’d expended before
We sulk in sorrow, feeling weak and sore

Deception might fool us lies leading us astray
Challenge the union in hopes it might fray
Whispers and secrets and deceptions and lies
We question our progress, tear at our ties
When we are inspired by our just looking back
Seeing the progress, we have made in our track
And remembering what has bound us ‘til now
The Declaration, Constitution, our societal vow

We await the sound the siren cry of our cause
Excited we rally together without pause
The giant gets restless in its slumbering rest
As the nation is challenged put to the test
Liberty cries loud that great banshee scream
As again together we climb and we dream
The banner waves high its light shining bright
The bald eagles fly talons ready to fight
